Hi, the following is the summary of the outline for advanced courses in ASME B31.3 - 2016 that I am running as a facilitator. These are complemented by Intergraph's Caesar II working examples and tutorials. Please contact me if you would be interested for in-company training. We also offer courses in: Heat Exchangers, Pressure Vessels (based on ASME Section VIII Div 1 & 2) and Axial & Centrifugal Compressors (based on API 619, 2010 Edition or EN 10440-1:2007).
Process Piping ASME B31.3 Code Advanced Course Outline PD 644
This course provides a deeper analysis into the ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code. It covers the requirements of B31.3 for design, analysis, materials, fabrication, testing and inspection of high-pressure process piping systems (2,500 psig up to 20,000 psig and larger). It explores the rules for various components including fittings, connections, bends, valves and specialty components. Other topics include dimensions and ratings of components, fluid service requirements for joints, piping flexibility and support, welding, heat treatment, bending and forming, brazing and soldering, assembly, erection, examination and inspection.
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the responsibilities of personnel involved in the design, fabrication, assembly, erection, examination, inspection, and testing of high pressure process piping.
- Know when to use and apply this Section, over the base Code .
- Describe the scope and technical requirements of the ASME B31.3 Code (Chapter IX)
- Apply and implement the quality requirements that are defined in the ASME B31.3 Code (Chapter IX).
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for engineers, managers and quality personnel who are involved in the design, manufacturing, fabrication and examination of high pressure process piping that is being built to the requirements of U.S. Codes & Standards- Some European analogies will be presented as applies to the EN 13480 Std.
The rules of Chapter IX should generally be used when there is sufficient economic justification based on reduced wall thickness to offset the other increased costs. Further, it is used when it becomes simply impractical to use the base Code because of the pressure design equation. Some consideration should also be given as to whether you will be engaging an engineering firm with the proper knowledge and experience to design the piping system using the Chapter IX rules.
